I have a 13year old, almost 16hh chestnut Quarter Horse gelding that I must sell...Im currently in
school and so far have managed to lease him out but its just getting to be too hard to keep trying
to find him homes when I am in Virginia and hes up in Massachusetts!
He is absolutely
perfect under saddle- he was broke to do Western pleasure, which he ecan still do, but I did english
pleasure and dressage with him- Im not sure what level I would classify him at now, but you could
easily ride him to second level if not above that. He will hop over a fence without problem, but he
has had no training in over fences work , so I wouldn't plan on showing him in hunter jumper
classes. He's good on trails- won't rear or buck, sometimes a little hop every now and again but
nothing crazy- he is deathly afraid of cows, however. On the ground he can sometimes be up in your
space- nothing dangerous just irritating at times, but easily managed provided you are not a very
timid rider.
I always ride in Prince of Wale spurs b/c he was broke in spurs and
is just much more responsive than to your heel. He has absolutely smooth, comfortable gaits- thats
where the Western pleasure breeding is nice :) and I have ridden him bareback on many an occasion.
He is level-headed, sound and sane; in the ring I would put brand new green beginners
on him; on the trail maybe not a brand new beginner. I used to take him out on my own a lot, and
then with other horses too he is just fine- no kicking or biting- other horses can ride up his butt
and he's cool with it. But he is still fun- you can train and school with him or just go out and
hack around. Obviously if you haven't ridden him for some time he will be out of shape-- and he'll
tend towards laziness :) - but he does not act green or silly after lots of time off, which is nice.
He's good for the farrier and the vet, stands well for grooming/bathing/clipping/etc.
