Description

Merlot – 1997 16.2hh blood bay unraced/unregistered Thoroughbred gelding. Amazingly built and talented boy who is sensitive to the aids and would love a partner to learn the more advanced things with – currently solid walk/trot/canter and is breaking at the poll and stretching/working through his back. Unfortunately, with the weather this winter, he has not had the time under saddle to really progress (see the pictures - he's so well built that he stays fit on his own!).

Don't let the price fool you - he will shine in both the hunter/jumper ring or the dressage arena. Merlot has had a varied background of both English (H/J and Dressage) and western riding, shown with previous owner in California - Hunter Under Saddle, as well as has been used to pony endurance horses in the Northern California mountains not to mention finished 11th out of 32 horses/31 finishers at the 25 miles Patriots Day Ride in September 2006 - you can find him under the name Ziggy on the AERC website (being described as "awesome on the ride, vetted great, took care of himself (eat, drink...) on the trail. He would make an awesome endurance horse for a novice. He stays over night in strange places with no stress. His trot is really nice for long distances. He has a lot to offer as a limited distance endurance prospect."). Amazing all-around boy that WANTS to work for you and be your partner.

If you have the time and determination this horse will take you places and boy will you look good doing it! Currently being ridden in a Mikmar lozenge snaffle Dee ring (for hunters) or an eggbutt French link (for dressage). No health problems, always barefoot and sound, easy keeper.
